Microduck Compute — Rev C routing prototype

Open body/microduck_body.kicad_pro and head/microduck_head.kicad_pro in KiCad 7 or later. This revision adds actual copper routing to the Rev B component design. Both boards retain portable footprint libraries and editable hierarchical schematics.

Engineering prototype, not a fabrication release. Read validation/RESULTS.md for measured routing/DRC status and ROUTING_NOTES.md for the remaining electrical and manufacturing work. Passing a geometry check does not validate the circuit, motor current capacity or high-speed performance. The body requires a filled/capped via-in-pad at the module connector and 0.10 mm minimum clearance. No Gerbers are supplied.

Included

  • Body PCB: 120 × 95 mm, four copper layers, Core3566 carrier, twelve DYNAMIXEL ports, power distribution, microSD, USB-C, CSI and body sensors.
  • Head PCB: 70 × 60 mm, four copper layers, three DYNAMIXEL ports, IMU, ToF, I2S amplifier and external microphone/NFC interfaces.
  • Revised component placement, IC decoupling groups, ground stitching and a ground reference zone on In1.Cu.
  • Direct CSI traces beside the module, with equal geometric lengths within each pair. The other signals and power nets combine autorouting and individual finishing routes.
  • BOM, connector pin map, schematic PDFs, board layer/assembly previews and native DRC reports.

Selected hardware

DYNAMIXEL XC330-T288-T TTL servos; protected high-discharge 2S pack; external Pololu D24V50F5 5 V regulator; two ICM-42688-P sensors; VL53L5CX; MAX98357A; IMX219 wide-angle camera; two external PN532 reader/antenna modules and two external I2S MEMS microphone modules. The beak uses one of the three head servo ports.

Servo pins are 1 GND, 2 supply, 3 data. The TTL interface uses 74AHCT1G126 TX and 74LVC1G125 RX. A 120-ohm RS-485-style terminator is not fitted. Camera flex runs directly from the body; neck signals, motor power and 5 V logic power use separate harnesses. See HARNESSES.md before wiring.

The high-current reverse-polarity and motor-switch devices are DMP3010LK3 FETs, replacing the originally proposed AO3401A. USB-C is native module flashing/gadget access; early-boot serial console uses the separate 3.3 V UART header. The carrier is not powered from USB-C and contains no battery charger.

Editing

The routed .kicad_pcb files are the authoritative layout. Do not regenerate them with the earlier Rev B generator: it would erase this routing. Archived component-generation sources are retained under source/ for reference. design.json and net_connections.csv describe the circuit; placement.csv records the actual final PCB positions and sides.

Review SOURCES.md for component and footprint provenance. No physical board has been assembled or tested.
