BoardRepo electronics project sharing

About BoardRepo

BoardRepo is the GitHub for hardware. Share any electronics project as a link anyone can open, view, and build from, with the schematic, PCB, 3D model, BOM, and fabrication files rendered right in the browser. No CAD install, no account to look.

What BoardRepo is

Upload a KiCad zip or import a GitHub repo and BoardRepo turns it into a board page: the schematic and PCB rendered as crisp SVGs, an extracted BOM, and fabrication outputs (Gerbers, drill files, PDFs) generated from the actual sources. Anyone with the link opens it in a browser and downloads what they need, without installing KiCad or cloning a repo. Every upload becomes a version, so the link always shows the latest board and the history stays downloadable.

A focused tool, not a social network

BoardRepo does one thing: it turns an electronics design into something anyone can see and download in the browser. It is not a project-story or maker-community site like Hackaday.io or Hackster; it is the visual repository and viewer for the design itself. That focus is the point, so it is judged on how well it renders and shares a board, not on how big a forum it runs.

It is newly open to everyone, and the library is already deep: hundreds of real hardware designs, including recognizable open-hardware projects such as SmartKnob, each with its schematic, PCB layout, 3D model, BOM, and fabrication files rendered and downloadable. So while the public launch is recent, the catalog is not starting from zero.

BoardRepo at a glance

  • Hundreds of open-hardware projects, viewable in the browser with no CAD install.
  • Schematics, PCB layouts, 3D models, BOMs, and Gerbers rendered from the real sources.
  • Free core sharing; KiCad fully supported today, more EDA tools on the roadmap.
  • Recognizable designs already hosted, including SmartKnob.
  • A purpose-built viewer and repository, not a project-story social network.

Free, KiCad-first, and expanding

The core sharing is free: public and private links, browser previews, downloads, version history, and generated build files, at no cost. KiCad is fully supported today because it is open and clean to render, and support for more EDA tools is on the roadmap. The aim is to be the tool-agnostic home for electronics projects, starting with KiCad.

Works alongside GitHub

BoardRepo is the view and sharing layer, not a replacement for source control. Keep your source on GitHub or GitLab for history, issues, and collaboration, and use BoardRepo as the link people actually open to see and download the board. See the full breakdown in BoardRepo vs GitHub for KiCad.
