Overview
This project includes open hardware PCB design files for a System on Module (SoM) integrating Lattice CertusPro-NX FPGA and NXP i.MX943 Application Processor (AP), along with local storage, clocking and power management circuitry. The SoM has a small (45x45mm) mechanical outline and follows the OSM-L standard specified by the SGet group.
The PCB design files were prepared in KiCad 9.x
SoM key features
- Lattice CertusPro-NX LFCPNX-100-8CBG256C FPGA
- NXP i.MX943 MIMX94398DVMMAA AP
- 8GB LPDDR4 (Micron MT53E2G32D4DE-046) memory connected to the AP
- 256MB NOR QSPI Flash memory (Micron MT35XU512ABA1G12-0AAT) shared by the AP and the FPGA
- 4 separate 128MB NOR QSPI Flash (Micron MT25QU01GBBB8E12-0SIT) memories accessible to the FPGA
- NXP PPF9455AVSA4ES PMIC for power regulation and power sequencing
- Texas Instruments TMP1075NDRLR on-board temperature sensor
SoM interfaces
The SoM interfaces exposed from the AP:
- PCIe x1 (Root Complex)
- PCIe x1 (Endpoint)
- USB 3.x
- LVDS for video output
- SDIO (8-bit) for external storage
- I2C
- 3x Ethernet (RGMII, SGMII, NC-SI)
- 3x UART
The SoM interfaces exposed from the FPGA:
- QSPI
- LTPI
- 2x SPI
- 11x I2C
- 7x I3C
The relevant physical pins for the FPGA interfaces outlined above are electrically connected to the FPGA banks. The actual function of a particular interface will then depend on the RTL design synthesised for the FPGA. Both the FPGA and the AP are connected with a JTAG chain exposed on the SoM pins. For more details related to the physical interface mapping, refer to the relevant PCB schematic sheets.
Reference application
The OSM has been designed as a part of an open source Board Management Controller (BMC) reference design. In this application scenario it complements the following DC-SCM carrier board. The SoM itself, however, can be used for any other application purpose which calls for a compact-sized processing module.
