GLARE

Intro

GLARE is a Glasses Linked Augmented Reality Engine.
It is basically a glasses attachment.
It has a custom pcb, which you could place either inside the frame of glasses if you 3d print the frame, or attach it outside.
It has a custom HUD made using birdbath optics and a 0.39" display, on one side, so you aren't too disconnected with reality, and a lot of the issues caused by cheap optics are resolved through seperate vision.
It features an esp32-s3-wroom-n16r8 motherboard which, along with a phone(to be added after testing pcb), will get data from 2 mics, a camera, a gyro and gps and give an Augmented Reality experience through the HUD, for assitance in day to day life.

Why I made this

I made this as I wanted to build something cheap and accessible, which could make AR glasses a reality for people. I wanted it to be able to help people in need by translating written text it sees into users chosen language, and it can also listen to conversations and show a live transcript in users chosen language, and can work for sign language as well.

PCB

It has a custom pcb which serves as its mainboard.

Power

The pcb has proper power management, and is powered by two batteries in parallel connected to a voltage supervisor.

The pcb also has a micro usb b port which is used to charge the LiPo batteries and is also used for programming the esp 32 module on the board.

It also has a battery gauge, and a power on/off button, along with a low power isolation.

It also has a 5V boost and a 5V to 3.3V LDO to power esp and other peripherals.

Main

The pcb also has connections for various peripherals, including 2 mics for stereo sound, a camera, a micro oled display, a gps and gyro.

It also has a usb to uart module to programme this esp 32.

CAD

HUD

So the CAD has a representation of the HUD, attached to a small piece, to attach it to the frame.
(the pieces of the hud will be glued with optically clear glue)

Camera

It also has a small holder where the camera will go. The holder has an extended piece using which it will be glued to the glasses.

Frame

The right leg/handle of the glasses frame has a simple design, with its bottom looking like a battery.

The left leg/handle on the other hand is modelled around the shape of the pcb, and is hollow with a cover so that the pcb can be enclosed in it.
Also, it bottom is hollow, and designed so that a battery can be placed inside it.
