ESP32 UV Nail Lamp Timer (NE555 Replacement)

This project is a modern, BLE-controlled replacement for the traditional NE555 hardware timer used in UV nail lamps. It replaces the legacy analog timer with an ESP32 microcontroller, enabling precise wireless control via an Android application.

Background & Inspiration

This project is designed to upgrade and replace the classic analog circuit based on the NE555 timer and BT134/BT136 triac. For a detailed breakdown of how the original UV lamps operate, their schematics, and common hardware issues, check out this excellent reference article:

Features

  • Direct Triac Control: The base circuit connects directly to a BT136 triac via a current-limiting resistor.
  • Wireless Control: Managed via a dedicated Android application using the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) stack.
  • High Precision: Time settings with 1-second accuracy.
  • Flexible Timing: Supports a maximum countdown time of 999 seconds.
  • Hardware Platform: Powered by the ESP32 microcontroller.

Getting Started

Hardware (KiCad)

  • Navigate to the Related/Kicad/ directory to view the schematic and PCB layout.
  • The design includes the ESP32 module, power supply section, and the BT136 triac driver interface.

Firmware (ESP32)

  1. Open the root directory in VS Code with the PlatformIO extension installed.
  2. PlatformIO will automatically download the required ESP32 core and dependencies.
  3. Build and flash the firmware to your ESP32 board.

Mobile App (Android)

  • Open the Related/Android/ directory using Android Studio.
  • Build and install the APK on your Android device to control the lamp over BLE.
